We met the farm owner as we continued home. She told us that due to the drought the yield was down more than 15%.

Listening to radio news reports from Ukraine just now the farmers have no way to export their crops and no money coming in. Many will not be able to plant next year’s crops and that will affect us all.

We have a surplus of ripe, red scotch bonnet chilli peppers but that will not take the place of “real” food but it will make hot chilli jam.

Picked and strung last night and hung in the onion barn this morning.

This morning – four of my ‘Aldi’ peppers picked from the polytunnel. (Peppers that I grew from the seeds of a supermarket- bought pepper).

I was treated to shakshuka, green bean and potato salad brunch al fresco (a few drops of rain fell on us as we ate)

Others were prepped with cucumber last night and this morning …

When I went to see them an hour ago they were playing happily on the climbing frame. I’ve no doubt that Nuno is enjoying his new surroundings which has a goat “playground” built by his new owner (he sent me another photo late morning see below).

His new owner sent me a video and later a photograph last night. He has five new playmates and a new human family to love and pet him.

12 years ago when we went to view some cows with a view to purchasing two heifers we didn’t know which to choose. Within moments it became obvious. A red girl (Lucy) and her black sister (Beattie) repeatedly walked over to us and selected US as their new owners. That’s exactly what happened yesterday. We assumed that the purchaser would choose the biggest Billy goat, Uno, but he kept his distance and Nuno repeatedly tucked himself under HIS chosen new owner. They fell for each other within 2 minutes.

He has promised to look after him and send me videos

I spent the afternoon making chilli jam and then tomato and chilli chutney

And Mabel caught a bird and a mouse just to prove that she is still a supreme hunter!
