An inspiring (and muddy) walk in north east Bedfordshire

The footpath through Strawberry Hill Farm

We drove to Knotting and parked outside the historic church of St Margaret of Antioch at Knotting Green

We walked back to Strawberry Hill Farm which is a large acreage of arable land that is being rewilded Google Strawberry Hill Farm for more about the project and its website and see link below

The church is a fascinating building

A grave inside the church with a salutary verse beneath
This is a medieval chandelier (adapted now for electric lights)

The church dates back to Saxon times (see the arch behind) although much of the existing building is 12th century with later additions in the 17th century and beyond. See notes below

Planted!

An Exeter Cross apple tree
And a Granny Smith apple tree

Here’s hoping that future generations will enjoy these trees and their fruits for many years to come.

“The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The next best time is now.”

Today we will plant another tree (or maybe more)

We do this every Tu Bishvat – the New Year for Trees

We have filled up the “orchard” with apple trees and pear trees click below

And plums and greengage trees click below

And now we are planting trees around the perimeter of the field. In the garden, in the first year, we planted an almond tree and a cherry tree and an apricot tree – all bear fruit each summer.
