The children requested sour cream cake for the forthcoming festival. This was made to a recipe that my much-missed mum used to make. She had taken the recipe from her friend Mavis (also now departed).

I opened my battered recipe book and there was mum’s writing on a piece of paper I had stuck in the book. My heart ached.

The corner is missing ( I had to try it – good!)

Mabel eventually got her treat – a spoonful of egg mayonnaise

She’s asleep too. Peace at last!

So I gave her a tiny piece of cheese as compensation. Nigel is outside enjoying a pigeon that he caught!
