A country walk with……my husband

A short drive to the village of Riseley (mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086)

https://www.riseleyvillage.co.uk/a-brief-history/

We parked near the Giddy Goat cafe and walked past the lodge leading to Sackville House and past a mixed herd of……goats

Some were friendly and came to the fence to have their heads stroked
Along footpaths and around fields we made our way to the churchyard of the 15th century church. Three things struck us there …..
A model of Jonah and the whale
So lifelike I thought that a child was inside!

The second was a grave of a second world war American veteran

Riseley had an American camp in its environs during the war and an airbase (more information is on the link near the top of the page). And the third item, which sent shivers down my spine
A grave next to the path leading up to the door of the church. My maiden name was Cohen and this tomb has a Star of David engraved on the front and stones on top to denote visitors. I added one of my own.
