It’s been a strange sort of day.

Much needed rain meant that only two of us walked. We met at the garden triangle near the church where a dastardly crime was committed in the early hours of Sunday morning

Part of the hedge has been destroyed, and several trees, the notice board and sundry plants demolished
We speculated on whether this was a car accident or vandalism

On our walk we met this lovely dog

Whose owner (one of the gardening club stalwarts who care for the triangle garden) explained that the damage was done by a drunk driver in a van who did a runner when the police tried to arrest him. He was finally apprehended and handcuffed as he ran
down Honeydon Road. There’s a lot of repair work to be done Further on our walk we met a woman who is part of the organising committee for the Queen’s jubilee party in the village. She was asking if we had hessian sacks for a childrens’ sack race
Hey presto, when I got home, I found quite a few in our potting shed and delivered them to her when I went shopping to St Neots. She said I was “a star” but if I had had my way I would have thrown them out years ago. J is the star!

Back at The Gables the cats are annoyed with me as they have to wear collar and bells until the blue tits nesting in the pergola have safely finished hatching and fledging their young. Instead the cats find moles to kill. Oh dear!

Nigel on my lap under the pergola
Mabel doesn’t like the colour of her collar

As a treat I allowed Nigel to lie on grandson’s bed with all his “soft toy” friends

The rain is great for all the plants and I didn’t have to water the pots and hanging baskets today

Gorgeous hollyhocks
Tonight we are eating baby broad beans. A new way to cook them for me. I hope I like them
