What happened here?

I went to the goat shed this morning. The routine is to take out the two yellow feed buckets and put them in the milking parlour to be filled and given out this evening. Then the next job is to put fresh hay in the feeders and then one of us takes Willow into the next door hut and milks her. Then all the goats are allowed out into the paddock until the evening

This morning I saw bright red stains on one of the yellow buckets

Yes, it looked like blood but from what? The goats all looked fine – and then
I saw this ear tag caught in the buckle of Wisp’s collar. It had been accidentally ripped out of little Ruthie’s ear, probably as they were all eating from the buckets. A freak accident
This afternoon the ear is healing but we won’t be able to enter Ruth into any goat shows (actually that’s not what we do!)
Such a brave girl

  1. A torn ear does not preclude them from showing! Cows are often getting ripped ears from getting caught in things. You need to order another but keep it safe and do not fit it until you need to move them – or until you get an inspection! I had one cow who had a tattered ear from ripping two tags out – which her certainly spoilt her looks!
