A broad centurion soldier fly

Sits on a tomatillo plant leaf

There are so many insects to identify every day. I am grateful for my free “Seek” app

J didn’t grow tomatillos last year (a member of the physalis family of plants) but he had grown it successfully several years running. We make tomatillo salsa with the purple green fruits.

The fruit is covered with a thin leaf that is peeled away before cooking. This fruit is not yet fully grown or ripe.
Similar in look to a tomato plant but not related
