Blackthorn or Hawthorn?

The weather forecast predicted sun for our Wednesday walk but none was forthcoming.

We divided into two groups and were later joined by two more walkers snd two dogs.
We crossed paths, once again, with the man and his rescue whippets who were dressed in their coats because of the cold
Heather joined us too and it was a merry band (two bands!)
And what’s the difference between blackthorn and hawthorn?
The flowers are almost identical but blackthorn flowers before it’s leaves appear and produces deep purple sloes. Hawthorn has a lighter bark and flowers after its leaves are out and gives forth red berries that are mildly poisonous if eaten raw.
