News from the Silkie house

The birds are still indoors until DEFRA allows them out (dependent on cases of avian flu). All the birds are keen to be out in the fresh air and mixing again – sounds familiar, doesn’t it?

Mother and her two chicks are doing well and the babies are well integrated in the flock but still stay close to their mother a lot of the time
The Silkie cockerels are good at eating their cereals (our friend gave us bins full of oats and we are giving some to the chooks every morning).
This girl has gone broody and she is now sitting on two GOOSE eggs! It’s a bit of animal engineering that we began a few years ago at the suggestion of a local friend. Geese get bored with sitting. Hens are more steadfast
