We went to friends to watch the fireworks. First there was a look around the magnificent workshop drooling over Austin Healeys, an ancient Bugatti and a silver Jag.

Then we ran home to watch the end of the display from our upstairs windows – with the two youngest grandchildren who had just arrived from London
