Wheat, Barley and Tommy Steele!

The wheat is golden and ready to harvest

The barley undulated softly in the light breeze as we walked along the footpath.

Then Heather mentioned that her son in law is the band leader for Tommy Steele’s new show, The Glen Miller Story, playing at the London Coliseum until mid August. Glen Miller often stayed at Milton Ernest Hall (just seven miles from Colmworth) during the Second World War when he entertained and performed for the USAAF. This area was home to a number of American Airforce bases, the nearest being just along the road three miles away at Little Staughton which the RAF handed over to the American Airforce from 1942 to 1944. Many of the American service men and women, who did not make it home safely, are buried in the American Cemetery just outside Cambridge. May they rest in peace.
