It was a hot, sunny and peaceful day at The Gables. We had set the sky box to record the England/ Sweden match and told our family that we would not be switching on our tech or answering telephones until we had watched the recording an hour after sunset. In London or, maybe, even in the middle of the village it would have been impossible to avoid the England result. Here, with very few cars passing and those so doing being hidden by our high hedges, we could carry on reading in the garden and avoiding the score. Well done Mr Southgate and especially Kieran Trippier – my man of the match.
