Born yesterday, after the lemon and the Maran Bantams had sat together for nearly five weeks on two giant goose eggs. We watched, now and then during the afternoon, as the goslings emerged slowly from their shells. Yesterday they were dark and shiny, today they are yellow and fluffy. Amazing!

A group of teenagers, from north London, are spending a weekend at The Gables. The event is organised by their adult leaders who are preparing a delicious meal for the kids – who are coming by coach at 6 pm.

Last summer our friends and neighbours took some of our surplus chickens to live with their rescue hens. One of our chickens, a Silkie, went broody so we gave them some fertile eggs to put under her. This morning one of the eggs hatched and there are still two more that might produce chicks.

Jeremy carted over a chicken house and run that was made especially for mothers and chicks (they need to stay in when they are tiny) and we also gave them some chick crumbs for feeding. Good luck Silkie and baby.

A wasp was caught in a spiders web and struggling to free itself. The spider was eyeing her breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Who did I side with in this battle of hunter and prey? Then, after struggling for its life, the wasp was free and gone.
