Mrs Silkie and her five chicks sleep separately from Mr Silk but during the past few days they have spent time together. The chicks are a bit wary of the cockerel but so far all is well.

Does Mr Silk know that only one chick is his genetically? The other four were eggs that we placed under Mrs S and came from hens in the flock. That accounts for the diversity of colours and breeds.
