I was sitting by the window in my bedroom when daughter rang for our morning natter. As we were talking I spotted a bird in the paddock which had the shape of one I had seen only twice before.  Once on the lawn next to my old tennis club and once, surprisingly, on the grass of my suburban back garden.  I put on my glasses to focus and indeed it was.  I said to daughter, “sorry but I have just spotted a green woodpecker and I must go”.  I ran downstairs and picked up the long lens camera and then ran back upstairs again hoping that the bird was still sticking its long beak into the ground trying to find insects and worms.
