Ever since Mack’s untimely demise and Josie’s disappearance, Mabel has spent more time indoors near the warm wood burner and sitting in my chair. At least twice a day she is impelled by an inner need to go out and kill a mouse or vole or bird. She looks for us so that she he can show off her kill and receive words of praise. At night we always put her outside where she can go nocturnal hunting or sleep, curled up, in the cat barn.
