Asparagus….in November?

Well not exactly. The asparagus bed is wildly overgrown but also quite prolific. Each year we hunt for the spears amongst the couch grass and if we both set to work next year we might actually clear the patch before the weeds take hold. After the spears turn into ferns they also set bright red seeds that look like plastic beads or holly berries. I picked a stem full of berries yesterday and, under Jeremy’s direction I filled seed trays with mole earth and popped one red orb in each capsule. They are now sitting on the window sill and might begin to sprout if regularly watered and warmed by the indoor air. If so I will plabt them out into a new bed (weed free) in the spring. A work in progress.
