Youngsters grow up and move away, but not too far.

Bella was born at Christmas time and she is now nearly 8 months old and almost as tall as her mother Beattie.  I still catch her suckling from her mum when Beattie allows, but from a distance it is difficult to tell mother from calf.  Now it is time for Bella to move to another smallholding nearby where she can run with some Dexter bullocks and eventually become a mother herself.  Weather permitting (it has been raining endlessly for two days) she will leave tomorrow and Lucy and Beattie can sit around together, occasionally mooing and chomping on the green grass.
