Cat Wars at The Gables

This afternoon, when I returned from shopping in St Neots, I found Mack and Mabel on the driveway and Mack had his hackles raised.  A dear little tabby kitten was miaowing and Mack was preparing to run it off the premises.  He did but within a minute it was back crying.  A lost kitten – a large kitten but too small for a full grown cat.  It was thin and lonely.  It made its way around the garden and came to me for stroking and then licked my fingers, hungrily.  Meanwhile Mack had realized that the Tabby had returned and he was not pleased.  He started stalking and making the most peculiar noises I have ever heard from a cat. (see youtube clips below)

I eventually picked up Mack and put the stray/lost cat in the goose barn and gave it some food which it ate up immediately.  I have phoned neighbours and have put a notice on our daily village email digest, Colmworth T, which will come out to all subscribers in the early hours of the morning.  Until then it is safe and I will give it some toys to play with.

I am also trying to deal with a struggling duckling, another chick that is trying to extract itself from a shell and I wouldn’t mind a cup of tea and the chance to tackle the rest of the weeds in the asparagus bed!  Hey ho……as Kate and Chris have both said to me……”it’s a bit like a zoo here”.
