This afternoon, with the help and amusement of the distant cousins, we separated the lambs from their mothers. There comes a time when children must learn to fend for themselves and today is the day. The lambs are in the paddock with Sweetie Pie, Poppet and Tiny Tim and the ewes are in the adjoining field where they can see their offspring and commune through the fence. Sweetie Pie was so excited by her new playmates that she jumped into the water trough and had to be lifted out again!

When it was time for our visitors to leave they went home with boxes of rhubarb and beetroot, globe artichokes, celeriac, chard and eggs and a jar of chutney. We hope to see them all again this summer when the cousins can work on the “family tree project” and the rest of us can sit on the swing seat and while away the afternoon.
