In the first year of lambing at The Gables we decided NOT to ring our lambs’ tails and to leave them long as nature intended. Good news for the blow flies who like mucky bottoms and are attracted by the dung which clings to the long tails. So last year we ringed the tails within a day of the lambs being born and they dropped off painlessly and left nice, neat behinds which were less prone to getting dirty. This year we have ringed all the tails without any discussion at all and yesterday Sweetie Pie’s tail was hanging by a thread.

This morning the tail has gone and Sweetie Pie has a lovely rear end and Poppet is waiting for her tail to disappear.
