Looking for Margot and remembering a magical moment in my childhood

As I sit by the fire I am watching ( on iPlayer) the Darcy Bussel documentary about the legendary ballerina Margot Fonteyn.  When the programme begins to uncover the relationship  between Margot and the Russian dancer Nureyev it brings back wonderful memories from fifty years ago. On holiday with my parents and brother in Frejus in the South of France, we bought tickets for a night performance at the open air amphitheatre where we watched Nureyev and Fonteyn dance in the ballet of Romeo and Juliette.   Still one  of the most romantic and magical performances I have ever seen. What wonderful memories.

  1. I saw them too. At Covent Garden. I’d passed a ballet exam, and my parents had to plead with the box office to allow them to purchase an extra ticket, as they had promised to take me if id passed. demand, was so huge, only 2 tickets per booking were allowed….or so the story goes. My favourite pieces of music are from Prokofievs R & J and only last night I was unsuccessfully trying to download some for my ringtones on my new phone!!
