A sad, grey day

The news of the passing of Jeremy’s lovely Aunty Jean hit us hard today.  Although she was 90 it is only in recent months that she had been in decline and we had been warned that the end was near.  Aunty Jean lived all her life in Manchester and when I first met her she always wore glamorous sunglasses and I didn’t know, until years later, that those glasses hid such a twinkle in her eyes.  Jean was a woman who liked company and she was a good talker, listener and endlessly full of fun.  She will be missed by her older brother and sister, her two lovely daughters and their families and all the nieces and nephews and their children.

This photo was taken when Jean and her older brother met for tea in London three years ago and we were privileged to spend some time with them, listening to the banter of siblings and their reminiscences.

Unable to do anything useful around The Gables today I took myself to St Neots for a visit to the Library, the Charity shops and Waitrose.  The library boasted an assortment of new books that are now in my temporary possession.  The charity shop had a stack of old 45’s which I bought for the tiny sum of £3.  They included The Beatles, Cilla Black, The Mamas and The Papas, Jose Feliciano and many more.  The Fabulous MickyC (aka my brother) will be the recipient of said singles as I haven’t had a record player for many years.  Waitrose was mercifully quiet without any queues and at the end of my shopping spree I walked down to the river and cheered myself up by communing with a graceful swan and looking down the stretch of water that ran away into the never ending distance.  Rest well Aunty Jean.
