When we moved to Bedfordshire we also changed our banking arrangements and found the fastest growing (and probably least known) bank in England……Handelsbanken,  a wonderful Swedish set up where you are allocated an account manager and assistant. When we call the bank either our account manager or assistant picks up the phone and speaks to us direct.  There is no call centre, nor a list of security questions to answer before being cut off or wasting half one’s day “hanging on” to speak to a faceless operator. Even more delightful is that our bankers come and visit us at home for the annual review.
