On September 30th we planted saffron bulbs in one of the raised beds.  A thoughtful gift from one of our summer visitors along with a book about the origins of the plant and its history and an assortment of recipes.  Less than one month from planting the first bulb has pushed through the soil and opened and another is on its way.  What a glorious autumn present.
