The silver birch tree is a prodigious “grower” and it was time to get the top lopped off two of the largest birches in the vegetable garden.  Tree surgeon, Alan Linger, sent his son and workmate to climb the trees, cut out the middle and then prune and trim them into shape.

We were left with a pile of woodchippings which we will use to mulch out weeds and grass between the raised vegetable beds.
