Newest baby chick escapes

The only chick to hatch from Maran number 2 is very tiny and probably hatched early.  Mother Maran has abandoned the other eggs in her nest to care for this premature baby.  We check on mother and chick several times a day, adding chick crumbs in the dish and water to the container as required and hoping, against hope, that one of the other eggs might hatch.  Just now when I went to see the birds the baby was outside the coop and a distraught hen was inside unable to rescue her offspring.  I picked up the baby and put it inside with mother and then looked to see how it had escaped.  It seems that the wire on the door was slightly lifted from the wood and it had slipped out through the gap.  Off I went to find a hammer and some staples to make the house secure.
