The fields are replete with ripening wheat and barley. I confidently asked Heather if I could take a photo of her against the wheat plants and she gently told me that the crop in that field was barley! She showed me the difference. Wheat stands up straight whereas the barley ears bend as they ripen. So much to learn but plenty of patient teachers.

Top one looks like spring barley to me
Bottom one is a “bearded wheat” normally wheat does not have the whiskers as pronounced as these!
