The garlic bulbs have been pulled and laid out to dry and soon I will have to refresh my “plaiting” skills.  Nearly 40 years ago, in Devon, I used to plait the garlics and onions and then hang them in the “pantry” for use throughout the year.  I do miss the pantry with its cold slate shelf but I don’t miss the storage heaters and the ice that used to form inside the windows on cold winter nights!
