The first chick emerged from its egg yesterday evening and this morning two more tiny chicks are under their surrogate mother  with further eggs to hatch.  Mother Maran hen has, in fact, been sitting on Silkie eggs but neither she nor the chicks will know or care about their parentage.  The Maran has incubated them and she will be their mother until they are able to survive independently.  Amazing.
