Bengal Eagle Owl…….up close and personal

The Colmworth Village Fair and Flower Show took  place this afternoon and we managed to get there after the children had left Grandson’s birthday party.  The theme of the flower show was the Queen and a selection of photographs of the Queen in different outfits over the decades of her reign.  A number of talented flower arrangers from the village matched flowers to the clothing and the result was quite beautiful.

The village fair was held in the garden of our friends Bernie and Vivienne and the highlight of the afternoon for me was meeting a Bengal Eagle Owl raised by a couple from Rushden.  The owl was an abandoned chick when he went to live in the home of these good folk and he is now 18 months old and could live for 60 years.  What a magnificent creature he is with talons that could turn your arm or face to ribbons if he so chose.

After admiring the Owl and then buying a number of flowering plants I caught sight of a doll sitting on a miniature chair. She is now living at The Gables and will, I hope, delight Sasha next time she visits.
