On the pond, standing on a floating wooden board, there is a wild drake.  Jeremy has seen him several times and I saw him this morning when I went to open the goose house.  In past years we have snatched glimpses of a duck and ducklings but not, so far, this spring. But as there is a drake on the pond it could well be that mother duck and her young are nesting in the thick vegetation around the far side of the water.
