Hen pecked…..it’s no joke!

We were shocked to find that one of the bantams has been pecked around her neck by the other hens.  It looks so sore and bare that we immediately separated her  from the flock and bathed the area with diluted disinfectant.  Then we sprayed purple skin disinfectant over the affected area. Poor bird.  Grandson asked “why do the others peck her?”  I asked him if he had ever been bullied or bullied others.  Luckily he had not but he understood that sometimes children (and adults) pick on others for no discernible reason.  Well so do birds. We experienced that when “baby duck” was attacked by the other ducks some time ago and had to be isolated for a while until we could reintegrate him.  He is holding his own but often seems lonely……or am I anthropomorphizing again?

On a happier note the flowers are blooming all around the garden with forget me nots, delphiniums blue, aqualisa and so much more.  And Wiggle and his half brother and sister enjoyed the visit and the attention from the East Anglia Dexter Group.  By and large a lovely day.

  1. Gill, what is the East Angoia Dexter group? Also, I am quite interested in you and Jeremy’s view on the Brexit issue? Hope all is well. I really enjoy your postings.
