As I drove mum back to London yesterday I was gobsmacked to see a bright yellow breasted bird flying across the field, very close to our car just a couple of miles from The Gables. As soon as I arrived at mum’s flat I went onto the RSPB website and guessed that this was a Yellow Wagtail which is on the Red List of endangered birds. I asked my friend Kate to confirm my sighting and she told me that, indeed, it was a yellow wagtail and that she has occasionally spotted them in this area. Wow! If you see this bird when driving try to keep your eyes on the road. Photo below is from the internet. I wanted to stop the car and take out my iphone but by then birdie would have flown away and we might have veered into the deep ditch at the side of Mill Road!
