After a day spent sitting in the sun, reading and reminiscing I discovered two Royal connections with my mum. The first is that the Consultant , Mr Pinker, who delivered Prince William to Princess Diana was the houseman who delivered me at St Mary’s Hospital some 26 years earlier. I was born in the ordinary part of the hospital but the Princess stayed in the Lindo Wing. Mum was working for the health authority in an office opposite The Lindo on the very day that Diana emerged with her infant son. Mum and her work colleagues watched from their window as the photographers surrounded the new mother. Then a few years later mum met the Queen and Prince Phillip when they visited the Queens Park Medical Centre in west London where mum worked occasionally as a receptionist when they were short staffed. It was a small gathering as the Queen unveiled the commemorative plaque and mum did not mention that she had shared an obstetrician with the Queen’s daughter in law!
