most thrilling of all, watching a skylark ascending vertically into the sky and singing its glorious song as we walked alongside the flat fields on our Wednesday walk.
The holly bushes have been planted by volunteers in the Colmworth country park. The common mouse ears might be flowers of a different name, if so please would someone let me know. And the skylark is on the red list of endangered birds so it was wonderful to see and hear the small bird as it lifted itself so high that I could still hear the song but no longer see the lark. Wonderful.
Cerastium fontanum aka mouse-ear chickweed, starweed etc. Thanks for adding to my wildlife knowledge.
Thank you both, Gill and Marion for the chickweed names. I also didn’t know that the Skylark is on the red list, we have quite a few here, and I love to hear their constant song, during the warmer months.
Could be common stitchwort – bit difficult to see from the photo. Lots about at the moment on verges and in woodland clearings. If anyone has a few spare bits, I would like to plant some in my little wood, but as it is soon dies back after flowering, I always forget!!
