Kate’s Dexter cow Kanzi gave birth, unaided, yesterday to a beautiful bull calf and I was privileged to meet him this afternoon. I also watched Kate teaching two one year old heifers to walk to halter. They are very pretty animals and although they pull on the halter rope they can be enticed with a few pieces of carrot until they will walk calmly . After a cup of coffee, I was kindly lent a beekeeping suit, trousers and gloves although I am not sure that wearing this gear will make me feel safe when faced with a hive containing thousands of bees. We were supposed to go and watch some beekeepers checking their hives this morning in Bedford but the lambs and the gardening kept us at home and busy all day……lucky me!
