Walking along unpaved roads, using the light of the stars and moon, is a different experience to walking city streets at night. Eyes adjust and ears signal approaching cars before headlights alert one to their presence. Notwithstanding the dark I walked along the verge and into the churchyard where a single light lit my way.

I opened the creaking wooden door, turning the old brass handle, and inside a splendid sight awaited. In front of the newly restored stained glass window were assembled the ranks of the St Neots Concert Band who played a wonderful selection of music with great expertise and aplomb. I tapped along to tunes I knew and surreptitiously took photos on my iPhone. After a cup of coffee at the interval and a chat with friends and new acquaintances, I left to come home and feed the lambs before settling down to watch the Night Manager on TV with mum as my companion.
