History at Buckden Tower

I ordered a child friendly book about Henry VIII in time for the arrival of grandson.  It captured his imagination…..probably the idea of a king who loved sports and jousting, beheading the wives that he couldn’t divorce and getting so fat that at the end of his life he had to be winched onto his horse in full armour (pity the poor horse).  So a half term trip to Buckden Tower was required to show grandson where Henry imprisonned Katharine of Aragon whilst he worked out how to “get rid” of her.  We unlocked and viewed Queen Katharine’s Garden, we went up into the Tower (and were trusted with the key to the roof) and we explored the chapel and the stained glass windows.  It was a magical morning and a way of making history come alive.
