A welcome February treat tonight as I took some gooseberries out of the freezer and mixed with custard and whipped cream to make a rich gooseberry fool.

The bunch of “idiots” is a family “in joke” from the time when our son was at nursery school and the custom was for the children to bring flowers into school for the teachers on Friday morning.  One Friday a mother selfishly stopped her car in the middle of the road to buy a bunch of daffs from the flower seller causing a traffic jam.  Jeremy muttered, rather loudly, “idiot” and our son thought that she was buying a “bunch of idiots”.  So when Jeremy presented me with a small bunch of closed daffs this morning he said ” Here’s a bunch of idiots for you!”  The first of the season.
