Swallows taking wing and nearly ready to leave the barn

I was startled, yesterday evening, to look up inside the barn and see two swallows perched on the highest upright beam and three further chicks sitting on a cross piece of wood.  They were stock still like little statues.  “Just resting” said my knowledgeable neighbour and friend and indeed they were as they later flew around before settling for the night.  Jeremy has tried to photograph them today with a telephoto lens but they won’t keep still! Soon they will be on the wing and flying away in the autumn.

  1. What a delightful picture you have captured of the swallow chicks, their mum knew a thing or two about picking such a beautiful nursery for her nest, good luck wishes to the family for their long journey ahead, they will never know how many of us have been following their progress.
