The tart tayberries ( a cross between a blackberry and a raspberry) is a heavy cropper at The Gables this year and makes a delicious jam. So I spent an hour or two picking the tayberries (and also raspberries and cherries) and turning the crossbred fruit into a deep red, well set jam.
I left for London whilst the jam was cooling and as I parked outside my mother’s flat, at 1.30 pm , Jeremy was telephoning me with some amazing (and exceptionally overdue) news from Home. Photographs and news to follow tomorrow.
