Italian peasant food and the first crop of…..

We first ate fried artichokes in Rome some years ago but couldn’t make the dish at home as artichokes were too expensive to buy in the quantities required. Now we have a superabundance of baby artichokes and can afford to cut them a dozen a time.

And we picked some early gooseberries this afternoon with the promise of many more to come.
