There is at least one pheasant hen nesting under the front garden hedge. The cock pheasant may have more than one mate which may explain why he struts so imperiously around the house.

Our Wednesday walking group consisted of two men and two women and two dogs. The others were at a church coffee morning or otherwise engaged. We enjoyed the sunshine but I was also thinking of all the weeding and grass cutting required at The Gables when I returned home!

As we headed back to the green we passed a beautiful tree with delicate green and pink blossom that looked like tissue paper. On getting home and opening some books I think I have identified it as an elm. But which type of elm?

My friend Karina thinks that the tree is probably a wych elm. Googling seems to confirm her view.
Thanks Karina.
