Coffee and chat for a good cause in Bolnhurst

Mum, Jeremy and I drove to the neighbouring village of Bolnhurst this morning to visit the Old Schoolhouse in School Lane. Local villager Shirley Watson MBE had arranged a coffee morning and bring and buy sale in support of the the charity she runs The ITP association. This stands for Idiopathic Thrombocytpoenic Purpura which is a rare blood disorder and her work helps to fund a support network for families affected by, and research into, the disease. Whilst mum ate some homemade coffee cake and Jeremy drank tea and they both chatted to people, some of whom we knew and some who we had just met, I bought books and toys and cards that had been donated to raise further funds. Just before we left an acquaintance from Bolnhurst came in and I took her photo with mum. She told us that she has had to relocate her letter box to a plastic box (postman has been informed) as a pair of great tits have taken up residence in the letterbox and will not be vacating until their fledgling leave the nest at the end of May!
