A guided walk at Paxton Pits was the occasion of pleasure as well as annoyance ( actually downright anger at an offensive sexist joke made by one of the volunteers who is past his sell by date). But in spite of the unpleasantness, which I have reported to the Chairman of the Friends in the spirit of the Everyday Sexism Project, I had an amazing morning. Tufted Ducks and Teale Ducks swam on the water filled pits, swans glided by and lapwings could be seen on the small island across from our viewing post. Later I slipped away to sit quietly in the Kingfisher hide where I was treated to the amazing mating dance of a pair of Greater Crested Grebes whilst, in the land behind the lake, a fox and then a muntjac deer strolled past oblivious to my binoculars trained on their presence. I returned home to a display of pink tulips and to see the first tiles being positioned on the barn roof.
