Sunshine all day but a strong wind ensured that we kept our jackets on as we dug potato trenches and then filled them with straw and manure, potatoes and topsoil. When our grandson arrived we took a break and went to visit our friend whose cows have so far produced two beautiful Dexter calves. One is so new that it is still wobbly on its legs. The bulbs that Jeremy planted last year in a scrubby piece of ground are now rewarding him with a display of proud, pink tulips. And, thankfully, the stock doves returned to the nest box that the builders carefully moved from outside the low barn to the side of an adjacent tree.
