Both geese are now competing to lay eggs and now there are six. Chris set about making a double shelter for the two females so that they can sit on separate nests once they feel the urge to incubate their eggs. There can be fisticuffs ( or fistibeaks) between competing geese who might push each other off the nest so we hope they will eventually choose a site each and stick to it. They can lay up to 18 eggs each before they hunker down so there may be a long wait for goslings.
The silkies enjoyed an early evening treat of turnip tops and we will eat the roots…..cooked and mashed with some cream and black pepper.
