For those of you who have remembered that Tish, the apricot call duck, went “broody” on 7th February I want to report that she is still sitting. If she continues her vigil then the eggs should hatch 26 or 27 days after that date. Tish comes out twice a day to feed frantically, jump into the bath for a quick splash and then she races back to her nest in the duck house. Bov, the drake, wanders around outside, swims and sits in the straw unsure of his role in this joint venture and sometimes goes inside the house to keep her company. And in answer to the question of “how many eggs” we aren’t really sure but possibly seven or eight. She pushed one out of the nest two days ago. Ducks are not renowned for mothering and she might get bored with the inactivity and abandon the nest. We wait, anxiously, as does she.
