The hens are laying three eggs a day, there are still a few courgettes growing outside and the celery has done remarkably well in spite of the early challenges from the rabbits. The bed of leeks will see us through the winter and the beetroots and turnips that I planted quite recently are growing tall and strong. There are salads and herbs inside and outside the polytunnel and spinach and pak choi and mustard greens. We picked and ate a dish of raspberries yesterday and more are ripening in the mild weather. In the summer house there are sacks of potatoes and boxes of pumpkins and marrows and in the freezers are bags of blanched broad beans and runner beans. Plenty to eat at The Gables.

When does the next care package arrive in HGS?
